Public Art Collection

Since its inception in 1998 the City’s Public Art Fund has gradually been enlivening the streets and public buildings of Kelowna. Whether it’s a whimsical sculpture or a practical tree grate, public art enhances the aesthetic nature and charm of Kelowna.

"Pride Mural," Artist: Scott Tobin

Completed in 2009, the Pride Mural by Scott Tobin, located on the south wall of 1476 Water Street, was part of the 2009 Pride celebrations and symbolizes diversity in our community.

Other pieces include, but are not limited to:
  • "Escape From Stella Polaris," a 15-foot high glass and metal sculpture, is the focal point of the atrium at Kelowna International Airport.
  • The Kelowna Family Y on Hartman Road in Rutland features "H20", stylized images of water droplets and bubbles inset into the lobby floor and etched into the second storey glass wall separating the pool and lobby.
  • "Fruit Stand", a series of concrete sculptures and colourful mosaics, brings life to the Art and Heritage Walk in the heart of Kelowna’s downtown Cultural District.
  • Decorative tree grates highlighting a variety of Okanagan images are found along Cawston Avenue. Kelowna artist Crystal Pryzbille’s design, "Elemental," incorporating trees, waves, fish and the sun will eventually protect trees throughout the downtown.
  • A joint initiative between the Public Art Committee and the Bank of Montreal, "Dancing Pedestrians", occupies a prominent position on the northwest corner of Water Street and Bernard Avenue.
