The Glenmore Landfill offers a variety of disposal options on site including recycling, organic materials, household and commercial waste. Tipping Fees or rates may apply.
Household recycling
All cardboard, paper, household container plastic, tin food cans and glass bottles and jars may be recycled. Recycling drop-off locations also exist for old propane bottles, lead acid batteries, clothing and small household appliances in working condition.
Tires
Scrap passenger vehicle tires and large metal appliances are stockpiled on site for subsequent processing and removal for recycling. (All ozone depleting substances such as Freon are collected from refrigerators and air conditioners prior to processing to eliminate any negative environmental impact.)
Yard Waste
Organic yard waste, such as leaves, grass clippings, shrub trimmings and tree branches as well as clean, untreated lumber is collected separately and ground up on site to produce chips that can then be composted or used to provide all-weather access to various parts of the landfill. Most yard waste is ground up to produce GlenmoreGrow, a popular soil amendment suitable for landscaping projects and gardening. GlenmoreGrow is available for sale on site for $28.57 per yard or $3.81 per bag (bags are provided), plus applicable taxes. Please see the graduated price list
for wholesale sales.
Concrete/Asphalt
Concrete and asphalt delivered to the site is crushed and used for road base material at the landfill.
Drywall
Gypsum board (drywall) is a product that creates poisonous gasses when buried with household garbage. Hence, the Glenmore Landfill segregates this product and ships it off site for recycling and alternate uses.
The City of Kelowna reserves the right not to accept any waste material.
