Houghton Road Multi-use Corridor Project
What's new?
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, July 5, Houghton Road will be closed between Nickel and Hollywood roads for construction of the Houghton Road multi-use corridor.
Completion of this project is expected by October 2010.
Houghton Road will be open to local residents only. Detours will be marked along the route and traffic personnel will be on site directing motorists. Visitors to Ben Lee Park are asked to use the north parking lot located off of McPhee Street.
In order to aid construction crews working on this project, residents are asked to avoid parking along Houghton Road from Nickel to Hollywood Roads during weekdays. Parking elsewhere will reduce construction complications and allow crews to complete work in a timely manner.
Introduction
The Houghton Road Multi-use Corridor is a multi-phased project over many years that will parallel Highway 33 and act as an alternative route for pedestrians and cyclists in Rutland.
The ultimate vision for the project is to create a multi-use corridor to enhance connectivity to the Rutland Town Centre. Funding has been secured for construction of the first phase of the project from Nickel Road to Hollywood Road approximately 1100 metres. The funding was part of the Infrastructure Grant program provided by senior levels of Government with the City contributing one-third of the cost.
The Preliminary Design Plan for the first phase can be viewed in the download centre. Construction of the first phase of this project is now underway.
