Background
Under provincial jurisdiction until the 1980's, today Gordon Drive is one of the City's main arterial routes to the rapidly growing Mission area and South Slopes.
Current planning and design for Gordon Drive is based on the 1996 Southwest Mission Sector Plan and major road servicing needs. The four-laning of this arterial is based on current and expected traffic volume increases as outlined in the 2020 Official Community Plan (OCP).
In March, the Federal and Provincial Governments announced $700,000 in funding from the LocalMotion program to go towards the Gordon Drive Multi-purpose Pathway project . This four-year, $40-million program helps communities build capital projects like bike paths, walkways and greenways that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make communities more senior and disability friendly.
The award for the design of the project was extended to Stantec in December 2006.
