Mugford Park As part of the 2010 Capital Construction of parks, construction of Mugford Park is now complete.
This neighbourhood level park in Rutland features amenities such as a basket ball hoop, a playground, large multi use open space, perimeter pathways and fencing, and landscaping. The design of this park is based on sustainability principles; in addition to traditional lawn and trees, this park has a naturalized landscape that provides habitat value, reduces maintenance effort and conserves water.
The total cost of this project was $500,000.
Background
In 2005, a six hectare parcel located at the intersection of Mugford Road and Stetson Street in Rutland was acquired by the City of Kelowna for development as a neighbourhood park.
The preliminary design concepts for the park were presented at a public Open House on April 30th, 2009 and the plans were well recieved by the community.
The park features a number of different landscaping sections to buffer the park from the adjacent ALR land and nearby roads.
