Highway 33 Transportation Improvements
Highway 33 from Muir to Gallagher Roads
Introduction Design and construction of the Highway 33 improvements is being lead by the Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure (MOTI) in partnership with the City of Kelowna.
A news conference was held by MOTI on April 1, 2009, announcing construction for fall. The addition of a climbing lane, known as Walker Hill was announced a week later by the provincial and federal governments.
The City of Kelowna's $12-million investment into the improvements of Highway 33 will provide safer connections and mobility options for residents with the addition of sidewalks, lighting, and landscaping. A portion of the funding will also improve storm water management best practices to protect the quality of creeks and streams.
The City will also construct the next phase of Gopher Creek Linear Park this summer which will include a pedestrian underpass connecting the neighbourhoods on the north side of Highway 33 with the existing trail near Black Mountain Elementary.
Schedule Construction started November 30 and will be completed by October 2010.
