Marine Facilities Study
The City of Kelowna partnered with municipalities within the Regional District of the Central Okanagan to prepare a plan for the development of amenities that will support boating activity on Okanagan, Wood and Kalamalka Lakes.
Final Report
On February 16, 2009, the City of Kelowna approved the recommendations detailed in the final report.
Recommendations:
The Regional District will lead a coordinating body to work with governments concerning recreational marine facilities on the lakes. Ron Westlake, Director of Regional Services will represent the City of Kelowna. City Staff will now review and develop the immediate actions detailed in the Marine Facilities study and report back to council before 2010 budget.
Immediate Actions:
- Explore options for public/private partnerships for the development of marine facilities
- Seek out parking areas for car and trailer areas during peak seasons
- Review and update current signage
- Look at adding short-term mooring buoys by 2010
Report:
Goals of the Marine Facility Study
- Create an inventory of recreational marine facilities
- Identify future service delivery models
- Develop a 20-year plan that will identify preferred sites within the Regional District for future boating facilities such as boat launches, sanitary pump-out facilities, commercial facilities such as marine gas stations, marinas and moorage basin locations.
