2011 Winner: Doctor Cigdem Eskiciogiu
Cigdem's research at UBCO Okanagan campus addresses "Developing Innovative Biowaste to Renewable Energy Solutions," particularly in regard to advanced anaerobic digestion process for turning residues from municipal biosoilds produced as a by-product of wastewater treatment, agriculture, the food processing industry, biothanol industry, residential and commercial areas into biogas to generate heat and/or energy, and to produce a nutrient-rich fertilizer. Creating a renewable energy from these wastes is environmentally beneficial and economical. Cigdem's work has been implemented in municipalities, farms, factories and mills through British Columbia.
