Background
An average of 47,000 vehicles use Highway 97 each day. Currently there are three lanes westbound and two lanes eastbound. Present conditions include inconsistent and nonexistent curb, gutter and sidewalk, numerous uncontrolled accesses, outdated street lighting and pavement structure that is near its end of life span.
Kelowna-Lake Country MP Ron Cannan, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Kelowna-Lake Country MLA Al Horning, and Kelowna Mayor Sharon Shepherd announced $14.6 million in joint funding to support a highway improvement initiative along Highway 97 between Gordon Drive and Highway 33. Federal funding support for the upgrades to Highway 97 comes from the Provincial-Territorial (PT) Base Fund, under the Building Canada plan.
