Kelowna's Civic and Community Awards recognize the talent, dedication and generosity of our outstanding athletes, volunteers, artists and businesses whose unique gifts have contributed to Kelowna and make it a great community. See each award page for the awards history including a list of past recipients, 2010 finalists and a link to the biography of the 2010 award recipients.

The Awards Gala night will be held Thursday, April 19 at the Kelowna Community Theatre. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for the 7:00 p.m. start.

Come celebrate with some excellent food and socializing before the awards presentations begin.

Tickets for the Gala will go on sale March 12, and will be available for $25 per person. To purchase tickets, please contact the Recreation & Cultural Services office at 250-469-8811. Tickets will also be available at the door while they last.

Award Categories

Arts Awards

Teen Honour in the Arts 
Awarded to a youth who has made an outstanding contribution in Kelowna through cultural and/or artistic efforts. Nominees must be between the ages of 13 and 19 as of Dec. 31, 2011.

Honour in the Arts 
Awarded to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution in Kelowna through cultural and/or artistic efforts.

Citizenship Awards

Young Female of the Year 
Awarded to a young female, in recognition of her overall outstanding contributions to the city of Kelowna. Contributions may be related to recreation, the arts, education, humanities, community service, medical, business and commercial fields. Nominees must be between the ages of 13 and 19 as of Dec. 31, 2011.

Young Male of the Year 
Awarded to a young male, in recognition of his overall outstanding contributions to the city of Kelowna. Contributions may be related to recreation, the arts, education, humanities, community service, medical, business and commercial fields. Nominees must be between the ages of 13 and 19 as of Dec. 31, 2011.

The Central Okanagan Foundation, Volunteer Organization of the Year
Awarded to a volunteer organization that has provided outstanding community services, with direct benefits to the city of Kelowna. Services may be related to environment, health, arts and culture, recreation, education, social services, neighbourhood and community improvement.

Woman of the Year ~ Sarah Donalda-Treadgold Memorial Award
Awarded to a women in recognition of her overall outstanding contributions to the city of Kelowna. Contributions may be related to recreation, the arts, education, humanities, community service, medical, business and commercial fields.

Man of the Year ~ Fred Macklin Memorial Award
Awarded to a man in recognition of his overall outstanding contributions to the city of Kelowna. Contributions may be related to recreation, the arts, education, humanities, community service, medical, business and commercial fields.

Corporate Community of the Year 
Awarded to a Kelowna business that has provided outstanding support for employee volunteerism in addition to financial contributions and initiatives having had a direct benefit to the city of Kelowna. May be related to environment, health, arts and culture, recreation, education, social services, neighbourhood and community improvement.

Sports Awards

Augie Ciancone Memorial Award - Female
Awarded to the most outstanding female high school athlete in the area of the Central Okanagan.

Augie Ciancone Memorial Award - Male
Awarded to the most outstanding male high school athlete in the area of the Central Okanagan.

Bob Giordano Memorial Award
Awarded to an individual who has contributed significantly to Kelowna through voluntary service
to amateur sport, such as coaching or administrative support.

Bryan Couling Memorial Award
Awarded to the Kelowna based team (amateur or professional) who brought the greatest amount
of recognition to Kelowna in 2011.

Athlete of the Year - Female
Awarded to a female athlete (amateur or professional) who brought the greatest amount of
recognition to Kelowna in 2011.

Athlete of the Year - Male
Awarded to a male athlete (amateur or professional) who brought the greatest amount of
recognition to Kelowna in 2011.
