Victim Services
The Regional District of Central Okanagan police based Victim-Witness Services has been in operation since 1989. The main office is located in the Kelowna RCMP Detachment at 350 Doyle Avenue, Kelowna, BC. The service area covers communities from Peachland to Oyama including the City of Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Westside Municipal District and the electoral areas. The program is funded jointly by the Regional District of Central Okanagan, the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General and supported by the Kelowna RCMP.
If you are a victim of crime, British Columbia’s Victims of Crime Act gives you the right to receive information about:
- Victim Services available to you
- Crime Victim Assistance Program
- How the criminal justice system works, the status of the police investigation and the court case
- The administration of the offender’s sentence
- Your rights to privacy
Victim Service workers are trained to provide assistance and support to victoms and others whose lives have been impacted by crime and trauma. Services include:
- Emotional Support
- Practical Assistance
- Information on the status of the police file
- Information on the Criminal Justice System
- Court Support including court orientation and accompaniment
- Assistance with official forms, i.e. Crime Victims Assistance Program (if eligible), Victim Impact Statements
- Information on safety planning including home security and personal safety
- Referral to other agencies and services
- Crisis intervention
