The City of Kelowna, Regional District of the Central Okanagan and Westbank First Nation are pleased to offer the Class Rides Free Program. A program that allows students to experience the Kelowna Regional Transit System free of charge.
Public transit plays an essential role in ensuring a strong community by creating jobs, protecting the environment, enhancing our quality of life and providing mobility and freedom of choice. Therefore, we believe that it is important for students to experience the transit system, understand how it works, and its many benefits. Hopefully with this knowledge they will make environmentally friendly transportation choices in their adulthood or at least support sustainable forms of transportation and understand their importance.
The Class Rides Free Program is available to any class in the Central Okanagan. Teachers can use the program to get their class to a field trip or as an opportunity to teach their students about alternative forms of transportation. Upon request a letter will be provided that will give permission for the entire class, teacher and any classroom assistants to ride the transit system free of charge. Please note that the entire class must travel together and each class can apply to the program once (on occaison additional trips are granted). The class must travel on a regularly scheduled Kelowna Regional Transit route (special transit service will not be provided) between the hours of 9am and 3pm. Visit www.BCTransit.com for information about transit routes.
'We just got back from our trip on the buses...and had an awesome time!!! Thanks a bunch for giving us the free ride which was a real bonus for our classes. The kids had a great time bowling and you helped make that possible; thanks very much for your generosity'.
