Ethel Street Active Transportation Corridor - Phase 5
Detailed design of the fifth phase of the Ethel Street Active Transportation Corridor is nearing completion, with construction planned to start in late 2019 or 2020. Phase 5 will extend from Springfield Road to Rose Avenue/Guisachan Road.
Phase 1 (Harvey Avenue to Bernard Avenue) was completed in 2015, Phase 2 (Bernard Avenue to Cawston Avenue) was completed in 2016, Phase 3 (Harvey Avenue to Sutherland Avenue) was completed in 2017, and Phase 4 (Sutherland Avenue to Springfield Road) will be completed in 2019.
Design concept - Clement Avenue to Raymer Avenue
In accordance with the City's Official Community Plan 2030, the current 2020 Capital Plan anticipates new active transportation corridors to be delivered over the next five to seven years, pending budget and Council approval.
Ethel Street is a north/south route connecting downtown and the South Pandosy centres. A concept design for an active transportation corridor project along Ethel Street between Clement Avenue and Raymer Avenue was developed in 2014, with two open houses held for public feedback and to discuss the project with City staff and design contractors.
The project is anticipated to be constructed in phases with a total cost estimated at $12 million. The corridor will connect with the Casorso, Rose, Sutherland, and Cawston Active Transportation Corridors and will run north-south between downtown and the South Pandosy Area. A number of schools, parks, health care institutions and businesses are located en-route or nearby.
