Traffic improvements coming to section of Saucier Road and Stewart Road West
Work to realign the “S” curve on Stewart Road West and Saucier Road is expected to start Nov. 7. To be completed as part of the Kelowna Integrated Water Project, the realignment will improve traffic flow and safety.
To accommodate the improvements, a section of Saucier Road will be closed from the north section of Bedford Road to the intersection of Stewart Road West and Saucier Road. The intersection will remain open, with intermittent closures as required. Access will be maintained for properties located within the work zone, and detour signs to direct through traffic. It is anticipated that the road will reopen in April 2019.
In addition to realigning the road, work will also include installation of a bike lane and three-metre shoulder on both sides of the road, improvements to the Saucier Road and Stewart Road West intersection, along with installation of new watermains.
Other roads that have been impacted by Integrated Water Project construction have started to be re-paved, and paving will continue over the next few weeks. For the safety of the public and work crews, drivers are urged to follow signs and directions of traffic safety personnel, as every effort will be made to minimize disruptions.
Residents interested in learning more about upcoming construction are invited to attend an informational block meeting today, Nov. 6, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Stewart Road West and Saucier Road intersection (view directions). City and contractor staff will be on site to answer questions about the project and construction.
