Lakeshore Bridge over Bellevue Creek upgrade and expansion
Beginning in March, work to install a new multi-use path bridge on Lakeshore Road Bridge at Bellevue Creek will start. The improvements will upgrade the existing bridge, enhance safety and connect the multi-use path from the north side of the bridge to Collett Road. Construction zone speed reductions will be in place.
Two lanes of traffic will be maintained throughout the project, pedestrians will have continued access to cross on the upstream side of the bridge and cyclists will need to share the road with vehicle traffic or choose an alternate route.
“Construction is staged to maintain two lanes of traffic throughout the project,” said Todd DeGuchy, project manager, City of Kelowna. “Once complete, two lanes of traffic, a cycling lane in each direction and a multi-use path will improve traffic flow and safety in the area.”
During construction, the current bridge will be narrowed to facilitate construction of the new multi-use path bridge on the downstream side. Then, traffic will be moved onto the new multi-use path bridge while the existing bridge is improved, and approach works are completed.
Construction on this $2.7 million project is anticipated for completion in September 2021.
