Info session: Interested in being an election candidate?

Those interested in running as a candidate for City of Kelowna mayor or councillor in the 2022 General Local Election are invited to one of two hour-long information sessions in Council Chambers at City Hall (1435 Water Street) on Wednesday, Aug. 17. Attendees can choose either the 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. session.

Each session will also be offered online via Microsoft Teams. A link to join the online meeting will be posted to kelowna.ca/election the day of the event.

Staff from the Office of the City Clerk will present an overview of the role of Council, what to expect at Council meetings, and election resources. Topics will range from Council authority and time commitments to key election timelines. A question and answer session will follow, allowing prospective candidates to receive the information they need to make their decision to run.

Anyone who plans to run for mayor or councillor is encouraged to attend, as well as the general public who is curious to learn more about City Council.

Nomination packages are now available to pick up at the Office of the City Clerk on the second floor of City Hall or you can submit a request online at kelowna.ca/election to receive an electronic package via email. Originals of the candidate nomination forms must be submitted during the nomination period between August 30 at 9 a.m. and September 9 at 4 p.m.

The General Local Election will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15. In addition, advance voting days (Oct. 5, 8, 12, 13, 14), special voting and voting by mail are available to ensure all eligible Kelowna voters have opportunities to get to the polls.
