Holiday hours at City facilities
Kelowna City Hall will be closed for the holidays from Monday, Dec. 25, through Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, reopening and returning to regular hours on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Essential City services such as police, fire, water, wastewater treatment and snow removal will remain in operation.
“The holiday season is typically a quieter time at City Hall when we see few business and public requests,” said Stu Leatherdale, Human Resources Divisional Director. “Reducing hours is economical for the City, while also helping our staff achieve a balanced quality of life so they can spend time with their families during the holidays. Staff use vacation days or hours from other earned leave banks for closure days beyond statutory holidays.”
For urgent water, sewer, parks, roads, snow removal and after hours’ inquiries during the closure, residents should contact the Civic Operations’ call centre at 250-469-8600.
Parkinson Recreation Centre will be closed Dec. 25 and 26, will have reduced hours Dec. 27 to 29 (closing at 8:30 p.m.), and will close at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31. Families can kick-start a healthy new year on Jan. 1 with the facility opening 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. that day.
The Glenmore Landfill will be closed Dec. 25, 26 and Jan. 1, although open to commercial only on Dec. 26. The landfill’s administration office will be closed Dec. 25 to Jan. 1.
Residents are encouraged to visit City Hall prior to end-of-day Dec. 22 to make payments or do business with the City (e.g. renewing a business licence – due Jan. 15) or visit kelowna.ca for convenient 24/7 online options.
The City of Kelowna’s social media channels will be quiet over the holidays. For more information about the City and holiday hours at City facilities, visit kelowna.ca.
