Highlights of November 21 Council meeting
A rezoning request was considered by Council for a five-storey, 48-unit hotel adjacent to the existing Super 8 motel at 2592 Hwy 97 N. The rezoning application will allow for the development of the second hotel on-site.
Doyle Avenue highrise
Council did not approve a housing agreement for a 25-storey high-rise being built on the old RCMP detachment site at 350 Doyle. The project is a purpose-built rental, and the agreement suggested an ‘attainable rental rate’ of $2,050 per month for 10 per cent of the 259 units (26 studio apartments). Council voted unanimously not to sign the agreement, and the developer must come back to Council with a revised agreement.
Public hearing changes
Council agreed to a procedural change during public hearings, allowing the public to have their say earlier in the meeting. Starting at the January 17, 2023 public hearing, staff will present first, followed by the applicant followed by the public. The applicant will then have 10 minutes to address public questions, then City Council will ask questions.
