Bike to Work and School Week
Join thousands of Central Okanagan residents as they hop on their bikes this spring to commute to and from work, school and other daily activities.
Register for this year’s Bike to Work and School Week at smartTRIPS.ca.
Bike to Work encourages employees to create workplace teams and log their cycling commutes to win prizes and compete against other local organizations. Each day there is a Celebration Station around the Central Okanagan providing free tune ups, snacks and prizes to commuters travelling to and from work.
Bike to School events are coordinated through schools with the assistance of smartTRIPS staff. Schools can receive a tool kit to help them get started, including incentives to encourage everyone to get to school without using fuel. Great prizes will also be rewarded to the schools with the highest participation rate. Bike to School Week is a fun way to encourage kids to ride to school regularly, and it helps build lifelong cyclists. In addition to getting active, schools also benefit though reduced school zone congestion, and fewer idling cars, helping to improve our air quality.
In 2018, more than 2,300 residents across the region registered for Bike to Work Week, 557 of which were new riders. Those participants logged 86,000 kilometres and saved nearly 19,000 kg of greenhouse gasses. Additionally, 31 schools participated in Bike and Walk to School Week.
