Every year City Council, the City Manager and City staff work together to develop an annual budget.

The budget serves as an outline for how money that come into the City of Kelowna should be spent to maintain and improve the City. 

As the City is limited by the amount of resources available, the budget helps in determining which objectives have the highest priority and will produce the greatest positive impact in the community. 

Decisions are guided by the City's financial principles and strategies.

Key dates for the 2021 budget are below:

Sept 10, 2020Establish City priorities for the 2021 budget year, based on discussion with Council and City Manager
Oct. 15, 2020City Manager meets with each department to review and prioritise capital requests, supplements and expenditure reductions
Dec. 7, 2020Council receives overview presentation of the 2021 budget
Dec. 10, 2020Council reviews and adopts of the 2021 preliminary budget
March 15, 2021Council reviews and adopts carryover projects from 2020
April 26, 2021Council reviews and adopts final budget requests, property tax rates and 5-year Financial Plan
