Mission Creek Greenway
Mission Creek is at the heart of human history in the Okanagan Valley. The creek travels through the city to the lakeshore in a peaceful environment that offers many opportunities to appreciate the adjacent wildlife areas.
Linear Park
Well travelled year round by walkers, hikers, runners, bicyclists and equestrians, the Greenway when complete will be 22 kilometres in length from the shore of Okanagan Lake to Mission Creek Falls, which is approximately 1.7 km. east of the City’s boundary.
- Phase 1
- a flat wide 7 km pathway from Lakeshore Road to Ziprick Road
- Phase 2 - a 9 km narrow pathway from Ziprick Road to KLO Creek. Traveling through the canyon, hikers will encounter bridges and some steep hills with switchbacks.
Community Fundraising
The Mission Creek Greenway is one of most successful community funded project in Kelowna's history. Corporate and citizen donations exceeded $700,000 in a six month campaign. Landowners along the almost 16 km length of phases one and two have donated over 41 acres of land valued at more than $800,000. In addition the Westbank First Nation has provided some 10 acres of land for the phase three trail.
The project was spearheaded by the Friends of Mission Creek Society, in cooperation with:
- City of Kelowna Partners in Parks program
- Regional District of Central Okanagan
- Central Okanagan Parks & Wildlife Trust
- Westbank First Nation
- B.C. Ministry of Environment
The park is operated and maintained by the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
