Activities for Youth
The following list contains outdoor and recreational programs or events that the City of Kelowna offers at no cost:
The City has built infrastructure which youth can use, free of charge, including the Play for all Playground, various parks, including skateboard, mountain bike and water parks.
Additionally, the City of Kelowna provides grants and funding for a number of youth-inclusive community programs and organizations, such as the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club, Okanagan Regional Library, Festivals Kelowna and Kelowna Family Y.
The City also offers a wide range of reasonably-priced recreation and cultural programs geared toward youth, which are available in the quarterly Activity and Program Guide. For example, baseball, basketball, yoga, cooking, music and languages.
Also through the school district, youth can tour the Kelowna International Airport, City Hall, Kelowna Community Theatre and Waste Water Treatment Facility.
A small number of youth sit on the Civic & Community Awards Selection Committee. Different youth are selected to volunteer each year.
Youth can volunteer through their school (SD #23) to be part of the Junior Airport Ambassador Program to get credit for school programs while volunteering at the Kelowna International Airport.
Classes, families and other organizations can participate in the Adopt-a-Stream and Yellow Fish Road programs.
Volunteer opportunities are also available through the Kelowna Community Theatre.
