Pandosy smartTRIPS
The neighbourhood pilot program
An individualized active transportation program will be piloted in Kelowna’s Pandosy area during the spring of 2012. Pandosy smartTRIPS will show how small changes in your trip planning really can add up and make a big difference! Plan your next smart trip and bike, walk, take transit, share the ride or combine trips.
Currently, we are developing materials and programs that will resonate with Pandosy residents and help break down their specific barriers to behaviour change.
The process
- Literature review - learn about similar programs and their successes in other communities worldwide
- Define 2012 pilot area - Pansody area selected
- Learn about the neighbourhood through research, including a survey, focus groups and business interviews
- Develop materials (including a web tool with trip planning and tracking), events, incentives and courses (current stage)
- Mail information to the area (mid-April 2012)
- Provide individualized information, tools and assistance (delivery by bike)
- Respond to questions and inquiries
- Hold local events/courses
- Monitor participation
- Conduct exit survey (end of June 2012)
- Evaluate program
- Determine if program will be replicated in other areas in the future (program will be regional)
smartTRIPS regional program
smartTRIPS is the Central Okanagan’s new active transportation education program. smartTRIPS goal is to encourage all Central Okanagan residents to be healthy and active by reducing drive-alone trips. By biking, walking, riding transit, carpooling and other smart transportation options we benefit the community through better health, cleaner air and a healthier environment. Together we can improve the quality of life for everyone in the Central Okanagan. smartTRIPS is a regional partnership between the City of Kelowna, Regional District of Central Okanagan and District of West Kelowna.
Coming soon...
The Central Okanagan's current regional active transportation program (i-Go) is being updated and the new smartTRIPS program will be ready in the spring.
