Airport Improvement Fee
Kelowna International Airport (YLW) passenger activity is forecast to grow to 1.6 million passengers by 2015. As the passenger counts increase, airport facilities and infrastructure will need to be maintained and improved to support the growth.
Development and construction projects at YLW are driven by the Drive to 1.6 Million Passengers Development Program and are budgeted to cost $50.5 million. These projects will be paid for through the Airport Improvement Fee.
Current Fee
The $12 Airport Improvement Fee (AIF) is collected from each departing passenger by the airlines on behalf of the Kelowna International Airport to support the expansion.
As elements of the program are completed, the AIF is expected to increase to $15 per enplaned passenger effective January 1, 2013. With this increase, Kelowna Airport will still have one of the lowest fee rates among Canadian airports.
