DeHart Community Park
Plans are underway for a new community park in the Lower Mission. The Vancouver landscape architectural firm of Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg (PFS) together with local engineers Intercad Services Inc. have been engaged by the City to prepare a conceptual plan and cost estimate for DeHart Community Park.
The City recent purchased a property at 687 DeHart Road, the final piece necessary to assemble land for DeHart Community Park. The park will be 3.6 hectares (8.9 acres), extending from Gordon Drive to the fire station on DeHart Road.
Project Goal Create a sustainable and carbon neutral development, that integrates innovative techniques to create a unique, vibrant, and healthy park for the community at large.
Park planning will incorporate:
- amenities and activities that will be attractive to all users on a year round basis.
- design which respects, protects and enhances community identity and the unique and distinctive character of the Lower Mission neighbourhood
- accessible design which also support public safety
- public art
The project team will work with the public to ensure that the project is environmentally sustainable in terms of end function, adaptability, construction techniques and materials, local context, landscape materials and planting techniques, and green infrastructure.
During site analysis, opportunities will be identified for preserving existing trees, enhancing the urban forest and habitat, integrating alternative stormwater management techniques, and for reuse of materials that may otherwise be slotted for the landfill.
