Online poll result available

An online poll of citizens' opinions regarding the future of Bernard Avenue reveals some interesting preferences for the downtown core.

The City of Kelowna conducted the 15-question poll from June 7 to July 12 and found strong support for a downtown that gives more sidewalk space to pedestrians and retailers. The poll found that 81 per cent of respondents would make downtown a destination more often if its pedestrian spaces were enhanced.

According to the survey, 64 per cent of respondents said they would not be deterred from visiting the downtown if the number of on-street parking stalls were reduced on Bernard Avenue by 62 stalls to accommodate more room for pedestrians and patios.

The survey also showed 55 per cent supported a parallel parking scenario that reduces parking stalls on Bernard by 62 spaces to make more room for sidewalks.

Another interesting finding of the poll is that an overwhelming majority of respondents make more than 12 trips downtown every month.
