The Parkinson Recreation Park Multi-use Trail connects the existing Rails with Trails corridor to the Dayton Street overpass over Harvey Avenue (Highway 97) and beyond to the intersection of Sutherland Avenue and Burtch Road.
This corridor is designed to accommodate multiple users, incorporating universal accessibility design standards.
Background
In keeping with the City's vision for an active transportation network throughout Kelowna, a series of multi-use pathways and sidewalks are being developed to provide sustainable cycling and pedestrian oriented infrastructure. These will link key areas of the city and connect neighbourhoods, town centres, parks and schools.
Parkinson Recreation Centre is bordered by Mill Creek, a vast amount of green space, and sports fields strategically connected with numerous pathways.
The multi-use trail, being constructed along the eastern boundary of the park, is an ideal link between neighbouring communities, regional transit, Parkinson Recreation Centre, Rails with Trails, and local businesses.
This corridor will particularly be oriented to the needs of commuter and recreational cyclists as it passes through the recreation park, and provides area residents improved access to recreational opportunities.
