With the development of the Wilden area in North Glenmore, three parcels of land were acquired by the City of Kelowna for development as neighbourhood parks. Funding for these parks has been provided through a federal-provincial infrastructure grant and municipal funding.
The City envisioned that each of the parks, located throughout the community, will work cooperatively. Each park features a specific amenity while contributing to the larger Wilden area parkland plan.
Background
Design concepts for Hidden Lake , Still Pond and Terrace Hill parks were presented at a public open house on June 18, 2009. In general, residents were pleased with the concepts presented, but also offered staff constructive input about preserving the natural feel of the area and the types of amenities offered. With public feedback incorporated, designs have been refined to include:
Hidden Lake
- small lawn berms that act as open space, provide a barrier from local roadways and create a place for parents to sit and watch their children.
- concrete walking paths, for pedestrian, stroller and bicycle access.
- playground equipment for 2-5 year olds in the centre of the park.
- shade and buffer planting for privacy along the northwest property line.
Still Pond
- large open multi-use lawn area.
- enhancement of natural assets at the south end of the park.
- connecting pathways to Hidden Lake Park and viewpoint over Still Pond.
Terrace Hill
- a nature trail with a maximum slope of 20% and a natural ground surface.
- a climbing play structure
- a 1.2m high chain link fence on the north and south park boundaries to distinguish between parkland and private property.
