Off-Leash Dog Park Trial

The City of Kelowna is considering a second off leash dog park where dogs would be permitted in Okanagan Lake. Currently, only one dog park provides lake access, Cedar Creek Park, which is 10 km south of downtown. Dog owners have requested additional access to the lake for a number of years.

Proposed Kinsmen Park Trial

Parks staff is proposing a trial in Kinsmen Park to see if the area would be appropriate for an off leash dog park. The trial will determine if the site is suitable, what potential problems exist and how they could be addressed. Kinsmen Park was chosen for a pilot study as the area is not as well utilized for swimming as other beach parks.

The proposed off-leash dog area pdf icon would be:
  • located in the centre of the park to minimize impact to adjacent property owners
  • fenced to ensure the safety of other park users, including children using the playground

Questionnaire

The opportunity to provide input regarding the proposed trial closed May 26, 2008.  Once staff have reviewed and compiled the input they will report back to Council at a Regular Meeting.
