Dayton Street Overpass
Overview
This project complements the City's vision for creating green transportation infrastructure to enhance alternative travel choices.
Linking communities and connecting people to places, this addition to Kelowna's extensive cycling network will tie in to institutions and recreational opportunities.
This overpass structure is designed to be safe and convenient for crossing one of the busiest roadways in the city over Highway 97 which sees over 50,000 vehicles per day.
The location of Kelowna's first pedestrian and cycling overpass will remove many obstacles and barriers which prevent residents from enjoying programs and services offered at the Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC).
PRC is bordered by a vast amount of green space, creek and sportsfields. The construction of the PRC multi-use trail in 2010 will strategically connect with overpass and other pathways.
Schedule
The City of Kelowna and Ministry of Transportation & Infrastructure are working together in delivering the project. The construction of the overpass is scheduled to begin in 2010.
The $2.8 million project is being funded through the City of Kelowna and Canada-BC Partnership Plan for local infrastructure, which is a part of a series of local transportation improvements valued at $39 million.
