Overview

This project complements the City's vision for creating green transportation infrastructure to enhance alternative travel choices.

As part of the Central Okanagan Smart Transit Plan, the Dayton Street Overpass is a vital component to serve Kelowna's RapidTransit stations once it is introduced this fall.

Its location is centered near an employment hub and major recreation facilities. Linking communities and connecting people to places, this addition to Kelowna's extensive cycling network will tie in to institutions and recreational opportunities.

This overpass structure is designed to be a safe and convenient route for crossing over Highway 97; one of the busiest roadways in the city which sees over 50,000 vehicles per day.

The location of Kelowna's first pedestrian and cycling overpass will remove many obstacles and barriers which prevent residents from enjoying programs and services offered at the Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC).  Concept drawing of Dayton St. Pedestrian-Cycling Overpass

PRC is bordered by a vast amount of green space, creek and sportsfields. The construction of the PRC multi-use trail will strategically connect with the overpass and other pathways.

Public Consultations

A public information session was held on May 25, 2010 at Parkinson Recreation Center for residents to view the final design drawings and learn the schedule of construction.  View the display panels under 'downloads' on the right.
