Glenmore Bypass
Latest news
Traffic may experience delays along the new alignment of Glenmore Road while construction crews complete final landscaping and irrigation work.
Introduction Construction of the new alignment of Glenmore Road began in the Summer of 2009. Construction is now complete and the new alignment is open to motorists and pathway users.
This major transportation improvement project consisted of the creation of a new 2.3 km four-lane roadway from Dallas to Union Roads and two lanes from Union to Scenic Roads. The roadway follows a new alignment along a corridor to the east of the previous Glenmore Road.
The former Glenmore Road segnment from Dallas to Scenic Roads has been renamed Snowsell Street. The name 'Snowsell' was chosen from Kelowna's Historic Road Names list. The Snowsell family first arrived in Kelowna in 1904 and have been residents of the North Glenmore area for decades.
The creation of this roadway and multi-use pathway was designed to improve traffic flow, encourage alternative mobility options, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create accessible infrastructure for all users.
Project Schedule
Summer 2009 to Fall 2010 Contractor: Ansell Construction Ltd. Consultant: Associated Engineering Cost: $11 million
